This year I was invited to consider putting some work into the Auckland Grammar School Art Exhibition, an annual event that has become very popular. I decided to try to make five pieces, of varying size and media, three canvases and perhaps a couple of collages on paper. I ended up making fourteen on paper, it was just so satisfying to be working on that gorgeous surface again. Of the collection I picked two pieces to have framed, and today picking them up was like receiving gifts at Christmas time. There’s something magical about brown paper parcels. Opening the parcel though was even more fun.
No matter how often we consider the matter of art and frames, the fact is a good frame enhances a work, it gives the viewer clear boundaries to accept or wonder about, it provides a window onto a work, and sometimes a better entry to it.
And in this case, I think my framer has done a wonderful job.

two jaw droppers, absolutely beautiful work…. and the frames do look fantastic, love the white..e^)
